In United States you may find this battery under two different model names. Referring to BCI battery chart it is called BCI group size 48 and also commonly has model name H6 battery. The H6 is a battery rating using DIN standards.
BCI battery group size standard were created by Battery Council International. It is a leading trade association for the North American battery industry. It provides industry standards for testing, dimensions, and sizes of lead batteries.
DIN battery size classification comes form German Institute for Standardization “Deutsches Institut für Normung”. A German national standardization organization covering nearly every field of technology.
What battery fits my car?
Vehicle battery fitment is based on many key features of the vehicle. Two same year and same model vehicles may require different type of battery. Car features like engine size, the type of infotainment system, auto start / stop option and smart key will influence battery size, cranking capacity and internal battery technology. To find out what battery your car takes you can look at the group size number marked on current battery in your car. In some vehicles 12 volt battery may not be located under the hood. Other possible battery locations are the the trunk and interior floor. If you need to change car battery, install new car battery or battery delivered and installed, give us a call (619) 530-9280.
Can I put a different group size battery in my car?
Most vehicle manufacturer recommend when replacing old car battery to install same type and same size battery as OEM. In many vehicles the battery tray and battery tie downs will only fit and support one size battery. Installing smaller battery than originally equipped will result in weak starting power and accelerated degradation of the battery. Going the opposite way and installing larger capacity battery than previous, may provide some benefits especially if you added other modification to your vehicle like audio amplifier, car under glow lights or inverter.
Is it worth upgrading to an AGM Battery?
There are now downside of switching from conventional lead acid battery to AGM battery. AGM batteries usually are more expensive. Any vehicle, old or new, will work better with AGM battery. The advantages are faster charging rate, more engine starts (60,000 times), more reliable in extreme weather conditions.
